Alfa Romeo prepares a new engine


The Italian firm has just announced the development of a new four-cylinder turbo engine developing up to 300 hp.

Alfa Romeo has just announced the development of a new four-cylinder engine. Announced with a displacement of 1.8 liters, it is equipped with direct injection and a turbo "high efficiency". Made entirely of aluminum, it is supposed to be lighter, quieter and generate less vibration than current engines.

Few other details were provided. We just know that this petrol unit produces 300 horsepower in its most powerful configuration, and the good satisfies the Euro 6 standard. It is also designed to be installed under the hood of a car as well as cross and longitudinal position.


Engine of 4C?

This engine will be produced at the beginning of 2012 the Italian company Fiat Pratola Serra. Given its characteristics and production date, this block could equip the sports marketing 4C which was announced the same year.

In addition, Harald Wester, owner of Alfa Romeo and Maserati, has announced that the new engine was the first step in a series intended to revive the brand's roots as a manufacturer of premium sports and Italian cars.
